GHOST SQUADRON // PORTUGAL 2025
Here I am for the first time in the ghost squadron! We're going to spend 3 days with 27 Koenigseggs. The origin of the name ‘ghost squadron’ comes from the location where the cars are manufactured. Before Koenigsegg invested in it, the site was home to one of Sweden's oldest fighter squadrons, dating back to the 1930s. This squadron was nicknamed ‘ghost’ because the aircraft took off before dawn and returned at dusk, so they were never seen flying. That is why the unit's logo became the ghost, while its slogan was ‘The show must go on’.
When Koenigsegg moved in, the squadron had already been disbanded, but some of the people who had worked there, the mechanics, were still there. And it was they who asked Christian Von Koenigsegg if he could use the ghost logo on his cars, so that ‘the show could go on’!
It is worth noting that Koenigsegg uses part of the runways that were used by military aircraft to test its new high-speed cars!
day I // A sunny arrival
The jesko is in the spotlight with some very colourful specs, like the Viola SE30. We also have the delight of seeing the 2 cc850s reunited. A first for me, I was already under the charm of its design and after seeing it in person, I can only love it more! The Medusa is doing us the honour of being in Europe for the first time, a real beauty. Carage is present with their fleet of ‘KNC’, a real unique knowledge from koenigsegg on the art of carbon fibre. There is also one of the two CCXR Special Edition, I have a personal history with this one. What more could you ask for!
day II // discovering portugal
The sun is shining brightly on this second day and the heat is already on - it's April and it's already 30ºC! As always with this type of event, it's a real show to see these machines mixing with the traffic on narrow roads of the Portuguese countryside. For the record, the last stop of the day was a visit to the historic centre of ‘evora’. We followed the white CC850 through the narrow streets of the village, and I've rarely been so scared for someone! We went through streets where there wasn't even a 5cm margin on either side of the car! Well done to the driver, I clearly would never have done what he did!
day III // track action
On the last day of our journey through Portugal, a thick mist dominates the landscape. today they set off for the Estoril track, to spend a final moment of accion before being loaded up and heading back home. It was my first ghostsquadron. Intense, to say the least! Still, I fell even more in love with the brand, the colours were on show and that was a delight! I saw again the first Koenigsegg I had ever seen, the CCXR Special Edition, almost 15 years later. Can't wait to next year.
